Love of Country

June 30, 2010

True love of country is not expressed by “my country right or wrong” but by striving to do what you can to keep your country right.

“Righteousness exalteth a nation: but sin is a reproach to any people.” Proverbs 14:34

My Pastoral Prayer

June 26, 2010

Lord, make this my desire and my end that “whether they will hear or forebear, … yet [they] shall know that there hath been a prophet among them.” (partially taken from Ezek 2:5 KJV)

Better be 20/20!

I am the eyes of my congregation. God help me if I lead them astray!

Are you unappreciated? Jesus was unappreciated when He was here and is still unappreciated by many who are His.

Do you teach by the lip, by the script or from the hip?

Zeal without knowledge is a wildfire that will burn down more things than it will bring warm comfort to whereas knowledge without zeal is as cold as death chilling to the bone and comforts no one save the one possessing it that is self-deluded into thinking cold is hot. Zeal with knowledge warms like a fireplace after a day in the snow bringing the warm glow to the soul of a job well done. It is also like the flame under a camp stove adding what is needed to bring nourishment to the soul. Yet, in the right combination it can also be intense like a welder’s torch that can cut through the steel hardened heart to bring it to Christ or create edifying art in the Saint cutting out the calloused fleshly bits not needed so that the image of Christ will stand out.

What is the state of your zeal?

For The Money

June 13, 2010

1 Peter 5:22 Feed the flock of God which is among you, taking the oversight thereof, not by constraint, but willingly; not for filthy lucre, but of a ready mind; KJV

I am thankful that I have never been in the ministry for the money for I would have quit long ago, but then again I may have been able to start sooner since so many churches thought it odd that I did most of my ministry for free. I even advertise on my web site that I am willing to come and do revivals for small churches pro bono and yet I have had no takers.

I guess if I charged $500 a night they might call me. It is a sad, sad thing. I heard too much when I first was saved that all preachers were in it for the money and I have sought to prove them wrong but it is hard to do when the churches think you are not of any value unless you take money. We are so messed up. God help us!
